AFGHANISTAN-TAJIKISTAN BRIDGE OVER PYANDZH RIVERU.S. Army Corps of Engineers Afghanistan Engineer District This site is in support of the design-build
solicitation by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Afghanistan
Engineer District (AED) for the Afghanistan-Tajikistan Bridge over the
Pyandzh River (Solicitation No. W917PM-04-R-0017). OVERVIEW A vehicular/pedestrian walkway bridge with access roads and approach ramps will be final designed and constructed by the successful Offeror across the Pyandzh River between Afghanistan and Tajikistan. The location of the bridge, access roads and approach ramps are between Niznji Pianj, Tajikistan and Sher Khan, Afghanistan. The bridge, access roads and approach ramps will be designed and constructed by the successful Offeror at the location shown and discussed in the reports entitled “Final Hydrographic – Topographic Survey Report for Afghanistan – Tajikistan Bridge Over the Pyandzh River” dated January 2004 and “Final Geotechnical Information Research Report for Afghanistan – Tajikistan Bridge Over the Pyandzh River” dated January 2004. Details of the bridge, access roads and approach ramps are also contained in these reports. Copies of these reports are provided as “INFORMATION ONLY”. Also, a Planning and Programming report was prepared prior to the above reports being written. This report is entitled “Planning & Programming, Bridge Site Survey Report for Afghanistan-Tajikistan Bridge Over Pyandzh River” dated July 2003. However, this report discusses three (3) possible site locations. Site Location 3 as shown and discussed in this report was selected as the approximate site location for the project. A copy of this report is provided for “INFORMATION ONLY”. A geotechnical site investigation including subsurface borings and test pit to obtain soil and rock samples for geotechnical laboratory testing was conducted during the summer of 2004. The findings and recommendations are documented in the "FINAL Geotechnical Engineering Report for Afghanistan-Tajikistan Bridge Over the Pyandzh River" dated September 2004. This report is provided for “INFORMATION ONLY”. A concept design (35%) package has been developed and consists of the “FINAL Concept Design Analysis Report for Afghanistan-Tajikistan Bridge Over the Pyandzh River" dated September 2004, and the "Afghanistan-Tajikistan Bridge, Shir Khan, Afghanistan to Nizhniy Pyandzh, Tajikistan, 35% Design Submittal" (Drawings)” dated August 2004, Revision 1. These are available for download. It should be noted that the Geotechnical Engineering Report, the Concept Design Analysis Report, and the Concept Design Drawings were previously available for download as DRAFT versions. A summary of the changes made in the DRAFT versions of these documents is also available for download. Please see below.
